Moving away from the Gulf of Mexico, I began to set my sights on the potential for Texas wildflowers and any sort of roadside kitsch that suited me. The first surreal discovery on this rainy day was a fog-blanketed marsh filled with carnivorous pitcher plants.

As it turns out, at least four species of insect eating plants grow in this part of Texas, with these pitcher plants being the most striking, with their tall vessels designed to catch and drown insects, and their striking alien-looking yellow-green flowers.
