Leg 1- Codorus State Park, PA

Codorus State Park is just a few miles from where I live, but it was a place that I had always wanted to camp. I was not disappointed, as the campground is the most immaculate one I have stayed in to date. It rained for two of the three days I stayed, but I made a point of getting out to explore places I haven’t seen before, despite the fact that I have lived in this area for over 20 years.

This orchard is a few miles north of Hanover, PA. I photographed the rows of fruit-laden trees in the rain. Click on any image for a full screen view on a computer.

Southern Pennsylvania is one bucolic scene after another. These are farms and barns near Codorus State Park.

Of course, since my travels always include a new restaurant or two, I managed to find a couple of local places that I have never been to, including the original Famous Hot Weiner and Rosie’s Restaurant.

The Famous Hot Weiner is a tradition that began in 1923 when Nicholas E. Mavros opened Hanover’s first fast food restaurant. By 1928, the original Famous Hot Weiner was operating at its present location on the corner of York Street and Broadway.

Below are a few additional moments from this first leg of a long trip.

Sunrise from my campsite.
I brought astrophotography equipment on this trip, but intermittent clouds kept me from using it. I did manage a shot of the evening sky from the same field in the previous picture. I chose this campsite with the intent to do astrophotography, and for the proximity to this open area. But, as is often the case, weather was uncooperative.
